Today we started our first day of school for the 2014/2015 school year. The first day of school is always filled with excitement and anticipation. I'm pretty sure that last for about a week and then it's let's just get through the day!
Honestly, I am more prepared this year for homeschooling than I have ever have been before. I guess going on my 5th year of it I should be . It has taken me just about that long to be confident in what I am doing. I am now considered a veteran I suppose. Not sure if I like that because it makes me feel old!
Our main curriculum this year will be Creation to the Greeks by My Father's World (http://www.mfwbooks.com/products/M50/40/15/0/1), Rod and Staff English (http://www.milestonebooks.com/item/1-124--/?list=Building_Christian_English_Series), Rod and Staff Spelling (http://www.milestonebooks.com/item/1-164--/?list=Rod_and_Staff_Spelling), and Horizon's Math (https://www.aophomeschooling.com/horizons/4th-grade/math/jmc400).
He is doing mostly 4th grade work this year. I plan to make sure we get many books to read and that we have lots of opportunities for fun and educational field trips.
Homeschooling is not easy but it's worth it. My selfishness as a person is never more obvious than when I have to put my sons needs before mine.... every day-all day.
Our schedule looks like this:
Rise and shine
Breakfast and morning chores
Teeth brushed, dressed, and ready for school
School
Lunch
School
Free time, errands, housework
Dinner
Make sure house is in order for next day
Bath and bed
His actual school schedule is:
Bible
Vocabulary
Penmanship
Spelling
English
Math
History
Science
Art/Piano
Reading
His schooling is getting a little harder every year. I am so thankful for all the resources out there for homeschooling families now.
I hope your school year is great and your kids enjoy themselves and enjoy learning!
Jenn
