Oil Pulling

So....I went to the dentist yesterday. I wish I could fully explain to you how much I HATE going to the dentist. It gives me anxiety and great irritation. For quite awhile now, the dentist has been trying to talk me into crowning all of my back teeth that have large silver fillings in them. I allowed them to do one crown a couple years ago and I really hated the whole experience. Once again, they are trying to talk me into getting a crown put on one of my back teeth. I also have two small surface cavities. To say I am stubborn when it comes to dental work is putting it lightly...

I feel like I take really good care of my teeth. I even floss every night! Who else does that but a select few? I use natural toothpaste and brush twice daily. My husband and son, on the other hand, take terrible care of their teeth and never get cavities.  My husband hasn't even been to the dentist in about three years.

Yesterday, I decided I was fed up with having crummy teeth and decided that I intend to do something about it. I have been researching oil pulling, and as I sit here typing this post, I am swishing coconut oil around in my mouth. Here is a blog post I found on it yesterday. There are a lot of resources out there if you do a Google search. I figure, what do I have to lose...besides my teeth?

The older I get, the more I resist modern techniques for caring for my body and teeth. I have become somewhat untrustworthy of dentists and feel like money is some of the issue in wanting me to get so much work done on my teeth. Maybe that's being cynical, but I can't help but have those feelings, especially when I get told at every cleaning that it's a different tooth that needs crowned! They can't even stick to the same diagnosis on the same teeth!

I am not against having needed dental work done since I obviously have a whole mouth full of fillings. I'm just choosing to take an alternative route this time. I will try oil pulling until my six month/yearly checkup to see if it improves my two small surface cavities and possibly the tooth that they are saying requires a crown and a root canal (which I am not having any issues at all with it, by the way). If it doesn't, I will get the work scheduled....maybe.
